Turbo embedded estimation with imperfect phase/frequency recovery

چکیده
In recent years large scientific interest has been devoted to joint data decoding and parameter estimation techniques. In this paper, iterative turbo decoding joint to channel frequency and phase estimation is proposed. The phase and frequency estimator is embedded into the structure of the turbo decoder itself, keeping into consideration both turbo interleaving and puncturing. Results show that the proposed technique outperforms conventional approaches both in terms of detection capabilities and implementation complexity.

Turbo synchronization : an EM algorithm interpretation - Communications, 2003. ICC '03. IEEE International Conference on
This paper is devoted to turbo synchronization, that is to say the use of soft information to estimate parameters like carrier phase, frequency offset or timing within a turbo receiver. It is shown how maximum-likelihood estimation of those synchronization parameters can be implemented by means of the iterative expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm [1]. Then we show that the EM algorithm iter...

متن کاملA Novel Carrier Phase Recovery Method for Turbo-coded QPSK System
This paper proposes a novel phase recovery method for Turbo-coded QPSK systems. The phase estimation is combined with the turbo decoding instead of applying separate synchronisation prior to the Turbo decoder. It is achieved through Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) which employs the extrinsic information obtained from the turbo decoder. Look-up tables are pre-computed to reduce the computati...
متن کاملCarrier Phase Recovery in Turbo Receivers: Cramer-Rao Bound and Synchronizer Performance
This contribution considers carrier phase recovery in turbo receivers. We point out that the resulting Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) is close to its high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) asymptote, even at the typical low operating SNR of turbo systems. We show that ‘code-unaware’ phase estimators are unable to perform closely to the CRB at the normal operating SNR of powerful codes. The advantage of ‘code...
متن کاملCombined Channel Estimation and Turbo Equalization for Wireless Channels
Single-carrier linear modulation techniques combined with frequency-domain equalization provide a viable alternative to multicarrier techniques for combating multipath fading in channels with large delay spread. Such modulations tolerate frequency offset and have well controlled peak to average power ratio. They have comparable complexity to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) sys...
